Our Impressions of Glanford Park

Glanford Park has been home to Scunthorpe United since the Club moved from the Old Showground in 1988. A fairly modest, compact ground, it has four covered, single-tier, equal-height stands – three with seating, one with terracing (for home fans). Originally named North, East, South and West, the stands are rebranded as new sponsors come on board. Currently they are called the ArcelorMittal, Grove Wharf, AMS and Scunthorpe Telegraph Stands.


Away fans are housed in the AMS (South) Stand– capacity 1,678. If necessary, extra seats are allocated in the south corner of the Scunthorpe Telegraph (West) Stand.


The stands are linked, keeping the winds out. Views throughout the ground are restricted by a myriad of supporting pillars. The Away Men’s (AMS Stand) toilet is located next to the refreshment hut (causes much congestion at half time) and is a struggle to enter/exit (some urinals are positioned along the corridor).


The Police usually provide a vehicle escort for Away fans’ coaches leaving the ground!

Directions to Glanford Park

By Road

From the M1

Exit the M1 at junction 32, and join the M18 (eastbound). Follow the M18 to junction 5, and then exit onto the M180, heading eastbound. Exit the M180 at junction 3, following the M181. Follow the M181 to the end and at the roundabout take the third exit. Glanford Park is on the right hand side.

From West

Follow the M62 heading eastbound. Exit the M62 at junction 35, and join the M18, heading eastbound. Exit the M18 at junction 5, joining the M180, heading eastbound. Exit the M180 at junction 3, following the M181. Follow the M181 to the end and at the roundabout take the third exit. Glanford Park is on the right hand side.

Local Area around Glanford Park

The ground is located on the western edge of Scunthorpe, next to a retail park (Tesco, B&Q, TK Max, etc) with housing on one side and a railway on another. The entrance to the stadium is under a maroon steel arch.

There is a large car park at the ground (charge £2).

Disabled Facilities at Glanford Park

There are no specific facilities in the Away end. Facilities for all wheelchair fans, with carers behind, are in the Grove Wharf (East) Stand. Views can be restricted.


Disabled parking is on a first-come-first-served basis.

Pubs Near Glanford Park

Berkeley

A pub with a hint of art deco about a ten minute walk from the ground along the Doncaster Road on the way in to Scunthorpe centre. Excellent range of Sam Smith’s beers, lagers, etc – among the cheapest near to any ground in the UK. Away fans very welcome.

Honest Lawyer

On the Oswald Road, best located for Away fans arriving by train (it’s on the walk to the ground). Excellent beers.

The Old Farmhouse

A modern pub on the Doncaster Road just off the M181, near to the ground. A choice of six lagers, just one beer (chilled John Smiths). Pool table, Sky TV, bar food and restaurant. Away fans welcome
