Our Impressions of Anfield

Anfield has been completely redeveloped (except for the Main Stand) over the last decade which has pushed the capacity up to 45,360. Away fans are located in the Anfield Road Stand, surrounded by home supporters. The away end includes a place to bet although it is only small. Close to the away fans turnstiles is the Hillsborough Memorial and the Shankly Gates, their is usually a mix of home and away fans visiting the memorial on match days so anyone who does want to visit the memorial will probably not be alone.

The Paisley Gateway and Shankly statue are found across the opposite side of the stadium at The Kop end with the Club Superstore and the Club Museum. Non-match day tours of the ground are also available.

A point of interest is that Anfield was the site of the first Match of the Day broadcast on August 22nd 1964.

Local Area around Anfield

Car Parking

It's residents-only parking near the ground so try a little further out. Or go to the car parks at Stanley Park, Anfield Comprehensive on Priory road and at Goodison off Bullens Road. If you want to leave your car further out and catch a train in, park it at one of the stations on the Merseylink Northern Line - Ormskirk, Kirkby, Southport, Bootle - and get the train to Sandhills.

There is also a sizable car park by the sports centre in Stanley Park.

Pubs Near Anfield

The Arkles

The Arkles is the nearest pub to the ground, and is the 'known' away fans pub. It's located in Anfield Road. It has been established as the away supporters pub for many years. Recommended if you are visiting Anfield or Goodison Park. Beware though, it does get very business, and is normally full about 2 hours before kick off!

The Albert

The best pub by far for atmosphere, and probably the most well known, is The Albert at the corner of the Kop. There is a hardcore of fans who go every week and sing for an hour or more before the game, the only problem is it gets very crowded, and hence takes a while to get a drink.

The Sandon

A little further along Walton Breck Road is a pub called the Sandon which used to be the changing rooms and offices for Anfield many years ago. This is the best option if you want to be close to the ground, and watch Sky Sports etc before / after the game.

Fast Food Near Anfield

The closest McDonald's restaurant is actually located at the ground, in the Kop stand.
